Busse Woods of Elk Grove Village is a stunning natural area located in Cook County, Illinois. The woods are part of the larger Busse Forest Preserve, which is an expansive forest that surrounds the nearby suburban communities such as Arlington Heights and Schaumburg.

This 2,800-acre wooded preserve contains several different habitats including wetlands, upland forests, prairies and savannas. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife species including red foxes, deer, beavers and muskrats.The area was first established by the National Park Service in 1931 when it acquired more than 800 acres from local farmers.

In 1965 it became part of the larger Busse Forest Preserve system and has been steadily expanding ever since. Busse Woods is connected to the other preserves in the area by a series of trails, many of which are open to hikers, bikers and horseback riders.

The wooded preserve also contains several recreational areas for visitors to enjoy. These include picnic shelters, playgrounds, fishing ponds and even an archery range. Visitors can also take part in educational programs offered by the park staff such as birdwatching classes and canoe trips down the nearby Salt Creek.

With its rich diversity of habitats and wildlife species, Busse Woods is a great place to explore and experience nature at its finest!
